Dear readers,
Good evening! Tomorrow (Saturday, May 18) marks the seventh anniversary of the bakery’s opening. To celebrate the occasion we’re throwing a party during open hours. The shop will be open as usual from 8am to 2pm with all the normal stuff, but there will be additional festivities from at least 8am to noon to enjoy while you’re here. Allow me to elucidate.
RAFFLE PRIZES : including, but not limited to: GIANT baguette, GIANT fougasse, GIANT cookie, gift certificates, GUIDED TOUR OF THE BAKERY, even the chance to smash David the Baker in the face with a cream pie! Hooray!
OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES: such as BUBBLES! (for the kids), SIDEWALK CHALK, CORN HOLE!
FUN GASTRONOMIC TIDBITS: such as hot chai, little rolls if you’re waiting in line early, cute cupcakes for only $1, and possibly even a nostalgic walk down memory lane with SHAVE ICE!!!
LIVE CHAMBER MUSIC: Yes, really! A string quartet comprised of Colorado Springs Philharmonic musicians will play from 10am to 11am! Mozart! Bach! Who knows?—maybe even the theme from whatever video game people play these days!!!
A few things I ought to make you aware of now, so you may appropriately prepare yourself for this auspicious occasion.
There’s a big-bubble contest. For the big bubble contest, all you have to do is take a photo of the biggest bubble you can make at our bubble making station, and send it to david@nightingalebread.com and I myself will judge who has the giant-est bubble of them all. Winner gets photo posted on our instagram for all four thousand-something dedicated fans to admire! And a $20 gift certificate to your favorite bakery. As long as it’s us.
There’s a sidewalk chalk art contest. Anyone can doodle on the sidewalk but if you want to enter the contest, pay $1 at the counter to enter and get assigned a number. Make sure to put your number on your art piece. Winning piece gets posted on our instagram and takes TWO $20 gift certificates!
There’s a Heartwarming Thank-You Card Contest for my staff at the bakery. They put a lot of tough hours into making our stuff from scratch and it means a lot to hear from someone that the work is worthwhile. So darn it all and get out your nice pen, or typewriter, or word processor, and write my staff a thank you card for all their hard work. Best thank-you card gets TWO free pizzas from PizzAria, the little pizza shop that’s popping up at our place now on Sunday nights (it’s one of the guys who used to make pizzas with us, he’s getting his own place off the ground, and the pizzas are great). You get priority pick on the evening’s pizza schedule, too.
Well, all for now. Thanks for everything. It’s been a good seven years. Hope to see you tomorrow.
yours truly,
david the baker
p.s. raffle proceeds go to springs rescue mission
